World Inverted

Another whirlwind has scattered the fields around me -- and oh, how the world has realigned.

(Note to self: Regular posts keep folks updated. Info dumps are overwhelming, though entertaining.)

Updates in rapid form:

  • Launched into second semester of the publishing certificate. Tackling: Business of Book Publishing, Copy editing, and Publicity. Also tackling: Novel I (aka. I will have no free time for tomfoolery, alas).
  • Visited New Orleans, LA ( Jan. 27 - 30, 2011). Dad had business meetings, and I stowed away in luggage compartment. Ample tales to tell, no doubt.
  • Went on -- wait for it -- A FIRST DATE. *Gasp and shock* True. I met someone from PoF, and we had an excellent time. Am hoping there will be a second date soon, but will focus on playing it cool.
  • Discovered (half an hour ago!) I am attending an internship interview this Friday. Again, am focusing on playing it cool and breathing... always breathing... calm and breathing...
Apologies for the teaser post -- I have a test tomorrow, and I have a mini assignment due on Thursday which I need to get started on . Fie.

More to follow, kids.

OSCAR Fingal O'Flahertie Wills WILDE; The Festival.

Call me a clichéd literature enthusiast, but Oscar Wilde has always been exceptionally highly ranked as far as my writers of preference go.  An author who, in my opinion, can travel with one from early childhood to the depths of old age, Wilde's aestheticism, artistic characteristics, sheer talent and wit are just the tip of the iceberg as far as my captivation goes.  The first book of Wilde's I ever picked up was a collection of his short stories given to me by my grandparents as a small child, and it is safe to say that I never looked back.  Not for one moment.  One of my best purchases of recent years was 'The Collected Works of Oscar Wilde' which sits beautifully upon my book shelf, and is certainly a staple item to my library.

Of course it is not only my love for Wilde which has inspired me to write this post, but also the fact that I am currently a student in the University to which Wilde is an alumnus.  Amazing?  I think so too.  Because I'm only in first year, everything about Trinity is still so majestically new to me.  The campus is still in possession of all it's awe and wonder, some of which is possibly lost for second, third or fourth years.  Needless to say, I was both awestruck and overjoyed to discover that Trinity had an entire festival dedicated to such an icon.

Tonight, Rupert Everett will open the festival, and this will be followed by 'The Trials of Oscar Wilde', both in the GMB, and both of which I hope to attend.  Players Theatre will be showing "Jack and Algernon", "The Importance of Being Earnest", "The Happy Prince" and "Lady Wilde" all week, and these performances will be complimented by Wilde readings, debates and nights out.  I, for one, simply cannot wait for the festivities to get into full swing; it is certainly fitting to organise such a tribute to one of the most crucial advocates of English literature.  Enjoy!

Chocolate MALTESER Refrigerator Cake.

My aunt used to always make this when I came over because I loved it so much.  So last time I went to her house for dinner just before I came back to college, she presented me with a big box of it much to my delight.  Alas, my supply has now run out (it's awfully addictive), and so I've decided to take matters into my own hands and attempt to recreate my favourite biscuit cake of all time.

Warning; if you are dieting, stop reading now.

Ingredients:
100g butter
6 tbsp golden syrup
250g chocolate (I used Dairy Milk)
200g broken Rich Tea biscuits
200g Maltesers

Honestly, is it almost impossible that there exists a recipe which is easier than this one.  Basically, all you do is place a saucepan on a medium heat and add the butter, chocolate and golden syrup.  While these are melting together, stir occasionally.  Crush the Rich Tea until the pieces are quite small, and add the Maltesers.  When the heated mixture is melted together and smooth, add to the bowl with the biscuits and Maltesers and mix well.  Lay the completed mixture into a greased swiss roll tin and leave to cool.  When it is cool, place in the fridge for a few hours and you're good to go!

When in Berlin..; KUNSTHAUS TACHELES.

I've been out of the blogosphere for over a week now, for shame.  However, my absence was filled with something absolutely amazing; Trinity Orchestra's wonderful tour to Berlin.

I've only been a member of the orchestra since September, seeing as I just started college this year, but it really is the best society out of all those that I've joined.  There's something about orchestra people that makes them easier to bond with than others, and this is partially why I had such an amazing time on our three-day tour.

We stayed in East Berlin, not too far from the Berlin wall, and fitted a surprising amount of sightseeing into two days!  However, I'm not writing this post to waffle on and on about Berlin's tourism industry.  Instead, I want to blog about a place I visited which was somewhat off the beaten track of your clichéd tourist destinations;

I don't want to blow on too long about it because obviously you can read everything you need to know on Wikipedia, but I would definitely recommend a visit to the Arthouse should you find yourself in Berlin with a few hours to kill.  The house began as a Jewish department store, became a Nazi prison, and now is the most wonderful home to so many budding artists and musicians alike.  The whole place was like a different world, with an abundance of niches to explore, including a junk yard style collection of exhibitions, and a large house with floor after floor of beautiful and unique art.  Also, on the last night, we all went to a club called Cafe Zapata which was located in Tacheles, and was part of the old Berlin underground scene- brilliant.

Unfortunately, I've left the cable for my digital camera in Cork, therefore I can't post any of the photos I took in Berlin just yet (I got a couple of good shots of Tacheles.)  Watch this space!

RANDOMS

I'm trying to buy more timeless pieces. I have so much jewellery gathered over the years, most are from Primark. And come to think i bought the majority of things because they were either on sale or under £5...yeahh, see I'm cheap!

Well...

I havent been blogging regularly as to be honest i wasn't feeling it. This blog started out as a sort of diary/rant blog thing but turned into a blog about fashion and make up. I was never ashamed of this blog but preferred it if no one i actually knew read it. I'm aware that some  have found it and find it silly and pointless.  In short: I REALLY DONT CARE AND IN FACT I WILL BE MORE "SHALLOW" AND MORE "MATERIALISTIC" THAN EVER. I enjoy doing this blog and more, enjoy the things i illustrate on here so suck my dick and try not to choke on it!
Fuckers know who they are!

To those who read this and might be a bit unnerved or otherwise but this has been on my mind and it's out now. I can promise such language will never creep up here again. More good stuff to come :)

Yet another fruitless WISHLIST and some vintage VOGUE covers.

A new season is all about new clothes.  Unfortunately, when you're an already almost broke and fully unemployed student who's spent all her funds on Christmas presents, nights out and just generally squandered every penny she owns, procuring the above mentioned 'new clothes' isn't so easy..

I am now considering venturing forth with my first eBay sale; I have plenty to part with, things that I know I won't ever wear.  However, I'm a hoarder by nature, and I simply hate parting with things, even if I'm sure to positive that I'll never wear them again. What a predicament.  My room at college is starting to become quite cramped what with the volumes of clothing I've accumulated, and perhaps if I sold a few things, I'd have both space and funds for a new purchases, such as (some realistic, some unrealistic);

  • Velvet full woven skirt- €42, American Apparel.
  • 'Boy' high neck sleeveless shirt- $129 (on sale), Band of Outsiders.
  • 'Stylishly Yours' lipstick- €18, MAC.
  • Wide Agate Band Ring- £10, Topshop.
  • Wool collar shirt- $252 (on sale)Comme Des Garçons.
  • Diego leather bucket bag- $825, Alexander Wang.
  • The Classics of F. Scott Fitzgerald- £7.79 each, Amazon.co.uk.

In other news, here are some amazing Vogue covers I found while wasting time on the internet.  These are some of the old ones which really caught my eye.  Also, it is absolutely uncanny how many times Kate Moss has appeared on the cover..

Reasons to Flee PoF

One week <-- Enough time to make me think, "Why, Moffatt? Why are you PoF'ing again? You wrote about the Major Archetypes and Minor Archetypes of online dating. Remember? Maybe you need a refresher. Seriously, why are you doing this to yourself."

I wanted to give it another shot. I figured, you know, I tend to abandon ship after a couple of weeks on the site -- why not give it more time? Perhaps I've been too hasty in dismissing the advances of other online gay gals. Maybe I just need to give it some settling time, and I'll find someone spectacular.

Case and point: Please, bask in the horrid glory of a real message I received this morning:

"we have so many similarities! (i really need to change my profile soon and actually write something in it). until then i'll just deal with being the convo starter. oh but oops you live in [GTA suburb]! lame"

Initiate head explosion in 3.... 2...... 1....

..... Could someone please point out where the "convo starter" is in this e-mail? I know I can be a stickler for etiquette, and I know it's been a while since I've been out on a date, but, in previous experience, insulting a person based on their current headquarters does not constitute a suitable ice-breaker.

No.

And thus, I will be single for life.

Ramblings of a TRAIN JOURNEY, and ALEXANDER McQUEEN.

Today I had to get a 2 hour 50 minute train journey to kill, so armed with the latest Vogue (February 2011- absolutely amazing.  For those of you who haven't bought it, or who aren't habitual readers, it's well worth the €5.  I'm talking.. Christopher Kane interviewed by Alexa Chung, interview with Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Warpaint..) and my iPod, I sat and waited to be taken back to Dublin.

So, firstly I was thinking about outfit posts.  Outfit posts, I think you'll all agree, are amongst the finer aspects of the blogosphere.    They interest and inspire in equal measure and are definitely amusing to compile.  As well as being the best, however, I find that they tend to be the most difficult to organise, and the hardest to actually get around to doing on a regular basis, as I usually have to cajole either my boyfriend or little brother into playing photographer.  It is for these reasons, and of course the fact that I was lucky enough to befriend an amazingly talented blogger (the fabulous Anna O' Shea of Style Girl) when I entered college, that Anna and I have decided to team up in an attempt to provide our readers with more frequent outfit posts, by working on them together.  It can only go uphill from here!  Watch this space.

**********

With the harsh realisation that Winter is coming to an end (I know it's odd that Winter is probably my favourite season), I think that I should probably start focusing on Spring, and my acceptance of its arrival- at least I like flowers..

In other news..
ALEXANDER McQUEEN;
SS/11 dresses, anyone?

I absolutely love Alexander McQueen.  Always have, probably always will.  This season's line is no exception- the debut line entirely by Sarah Burton, it's gorgeous.  Just look at these dresses!  I mean, everyone thought that the line would suffer after the tragic and unexpected death of Alexander 'Lee' McQueen, but Sarah Burton has truly stepped up to the plate, and the Spring/Summer 2011 collection could scarcely be more impressive- love it.

Got My Vans On But They Look Like Sneakers...

I'm not a Trainer's person but I'm in dire need of some Vans. I heard there was a vans shop in Covent Garden...
