She recently wrote an open letter about her feelings towards the race issue in the fashion industry and how she deals with such adversity. Read her letter here.

There's this old Nigerian saying that if you cut a Nigerian woman she bleeds pure glamour. You have no idea how many 'label-whores' I  know, my auntie insists on wearing Prada head to toe. in fact, I'm quite sure that my aunties are the sole reason why the Prada Store in Manchester is reaching it's targets. 

 Taking the hair industry as an example, black women are willing to shell out serious money for some hair extensions, rely on high end make up such as Dior, Laura Mercier or Mac to satisfy their make up needs. These industries are literally worth billions. As far as I'm concerned they are loosing major money by advertising their products to only one type of woman. So justifying the scarcity of black models in magazines, ad campaigns, catalogues and on the runway by saying that there aren't many 'black buyers' in my opinion couldn't be further away form the truth.

It was quite an eye opener, none of these girls seemed totally okay with what they were doing, yet chose to ignore all the bad sides in the quest of fame and fortune. "Look at Amber Rose" they quipped... I had to remind myself that sex sells-reality. What slightly upset me was the fact that one girl was classed as too dark, another thing learned one can be too dark to shake ones booty. I see. Also luring these girls to their dubious video shoots in back alleys is something out of a sex offenders handbook. I mean what's next,  Seeking Video Hoes, Payment In Form Of Sexual Assault??? In general the  men's attitudes towards women were quite shocking, in particular one guy's perception of what was expected of a video hoe, as he put it, was to bend down and show her tits.Then again, some of these women let themselves be treated that way, and are fully aware of the dangers. But hey they're 'hustlin' innit. 

I'm slightly annoyed as the aim of the program was to convey the dangers of this world, yet in the end even the presenter, the lovely girl she was, succumbed to the charm of the video vixen world. She nearly cried when they told her that they could put her into a video. She seemed to enjoy herself amid all the scantly clad females... One good thing though,  i might be sitting on some considerable assets( see what I did there). 7 Grand is a lot, now If I could pay my tuition fees with my bum, I'm sure some girls have tried...

The White Beauty Myth........

I was going to post about it earlier but lazyness overtook me. So part of channel 4's race thingy was a programme called Bleach, Nip, Tuck: The White Beauty Myth. During that hour long special they followed three individuals who all wanted one thing: European Features=white skin.


Take Mun, mid-twentys who let me tell you is one fine looking guy, however he blames his ethnicity which is Asian for his lacklustre modelling career. To get to the top he believes that you have to look european,  ( Tyson Beckford would disagree but anyhoo...) so what is he contemplating??? Drastic Facial surgery to make his jaw line more prominent and his nose narrower......As i was watching this i was just shaking my head, he wanted to look more european just so that he could 'fit in'. Near the end of the program it was so heartbreaking to discover that all his ideas stemmed from a traumatic child hood experience where he was racially assaulted. 


Same with Jet, an Afro-Caribbean woman who hates her nose because it made her look poor. she lives in a gated community in Essex...i know Essex....where only 2 other black people live. Dolls let me tell you she made me scream at the tv because her problem wasn't just her nose, if it was up to her she would be white. She constantly rejected her identity because it didn't fit in with her lifestyle......she's a glamour model for fucks sake!  Again she wanted to distance herself from her 'blackness' because she was attacked by a group of black girls. I don't condone violence but some of that shit she said would have easily made the most mild-mannered person smack'er  one! Whenever i closed my eyes and heard her talk it was a white person talking derogatorily talking about black people. 


Next was a  lay from Banghladesh who felt she was inadequate because she had darker skin. to be honest i heard of this 'colour prejudice' in Asia where the lighter you are the prettier...mind you this phenomena exists everywhere. Anyways i heard friend of mines talking about how they can't marry anyone darker than them , or i have one friend who's quite dark and whenever he's playin around with his mates, one of them always had something to say about his skin colour. His face would just look so hurt, you can't imagine how i felt for him. 


That show was just sad, it sickens me that western advertising has made some people actually attempt to de-racialise themselves. All these advertising companies don't know what sort of damage they do, they are literally making some people want to die. As a black person my skin crawled when one of the women who had darker skin said that she thought that having her skin tone was the worst thing in the world, and how a 'black nose' is a punishment from god????

I Don't Care If You Think I'm Prude But I'm Not A Fan of Grinding

Right, so you're in the club and your fave song comes on and naturally you wanna dance. You dance, you know you're in your own world just having fun and enjoying yourself. Well, it doesn't take long until some fool thinks he can grind up on you from behind. Oh dear........where shall i start! according to wikipedia 'grinding' is a type of close partner dance where two or more dancers rub their bodies (especially the genitalia) against each other in a sexually suggestive manner. What??? Sorry but not with me! So I was dancing and some guy decided to grind up on me, don't get me wrong but if you've got rhythm and you just wanna dance behind me, not that close you know just so that i can feel your presence is fine but as soon as i can feel your erection digging a hole in my back, i think we should wrap it up! The worst thing was while i was trying to get away i could feel his grip around my neck, one hand pushing me down the other clammering my waist. I was completely powerless for half a minute, I swear I was trying to escape his grip but he was too strong! I started to feel very vulnerable so i don't know I just jerked and ducked away from him, that's when he realised that i wasn't up for any dry humping. And you know what his parting words were? 'Damn relax, why you so stush for? 

Right, first of all what is stush and secondly i think you just forced yourself on me...that's what i said and you know what this fool tried to do??? he laughed and said that HE was doing me a favour! I think I slapped him before they chucked me out, no I'm kidding. I think I did the best thing, I just walked away. No matter what i was going to say would make him change anything about his behaviour so I just left him standing there like an idiot.

Mhh...pondering

Today was really eventful, I'm so tired it's unbelievable....totally random but London is full of actors, i know it is the magnet but nearly everyone i meet on the tube or the bus is coming back from some sort of audition...one word, no two words..competitive business.

While we were discussing the play today, one particular question kinda made me stop and think...Do female strippers, still fit into this ideology of being empowered even thought they are enticing men with their bodies, satisfying the male mind? And is it that different from prostitution as both profession in the end please men ? The whole play is about feminism and how women class themselves as hardcore feminists yet find themselves controlled by male society. The real question is Is there such thing as Feminism and female empowerment?
