Childhood Sci Fi

Fangirl Project, Casey McKinnon

So, I've noticed a little tick in me -- when I am suffering from a cold or a flu, I tend to wander back through the past a little. By that, I mean I turn to television shows or books from childhood in a bid to comfort myself.

... And I think I found the reason why I am such a mental case for science fiction....

Yes, I would like to swing on a star, thank you for asking. I consider Out of This World my gateway drug to the sci fi community. I am predisposed to aliens and space travel because of this show.

... And I think I can also point a finger at the lovable little alien known as Mac from the aptly-named flick, Mac and Me...

Now heck, it's never all about aliens, am I right? Robots comprise a large piece of the sci fi pie. I'm proud to say we have a bootlegged copy of Short Circuit on VHS. Although, I was partial to Short Circuit 2, I believe.

Johnny 5 surpasses Wall-e in my books.

And I always seemed to catch Cocoon whenever I was visiting my grandparents up north. Apparently that was THE film to repeat on TV in the early 90s.

... I find these moments amazing, just when you realize how much a nerd you were as a child. I always thought it was a recent phenomenon, but apparently the horror was building throughout my entire life. Egads.

So, brief apology for the randomness of the posts as of late. I'm all muddled from this cold, and my lungs are rather pained from all the sneezing. I'm hoping to move past it soon so I can start concentrating on what's most important: women.

You know, since this is a blog for queer women and all.

Actually, I blame Doctor Who for this digression. I had borrowed a four-part episode arc from the local library last week, and I had to watch/return it today or face a dollar-a-day fine. Anyway, it was an arc involving the first THREE Doctors in a 4-part mash-up CRAZY episode.

Appropriately, it was called "The Three Doctors."

The whole premise of this arc violates the Laws of Time as it involves these three versions of The Doctor meeting up to defeat a rogue member of their race who is paradoxically trapped in a black hole. Even the Time Lords themselves were like, "Damn, we are breaking our own rules here to send out three versions of The Doctor, but there's a whole lot of anti-matter we need to fight and one Doctor ain't gonna cut it this time."

Serious. It was nuts.

... And this is why I am at home on a Friday night, blogging. Also because my innards are rebelling against me. That's a large part of the equation...

Bah.
